Supporting local business’ helps support the economy and keeps communities alive. Below is a list of my favourite local business I have visited over the years. Many of these are situated nearby hikes I have done and have made a wonderful addition to the experience. This is a growing list I plan to update as I visit more.

Peveril stores and bakery
This is a small well-loved bakery and village shop in Castleton (peak district). The first time I visited here I was so young I cant remember it and I have been back more times than i can count. The pastries are gorgeous and perfect to take on a walk or as a post walk treat, an added bonus is that they are made from locally sourced ingredients and prepared fresh in store. They also have fresh meats, cheeses, fruit, vegetables, artisan goods from nearby traders, local beers, honeys, chutneys, and preserves.
Glencoe Mountain resort
Glencoe Mountain Resort is an independently run mountain resort based in the Scottish Highlands. Alongside winter sports, the business offers year-round access to the surrounding landscape through walking routes, chairlift access, and outdoor activities, supporting local tourism and helping more people experience the area.
The real food cafe
The Real Food Café is an independent, family-run café based near Glencoe, known for tasty, well-made food using quality ingredients. It’s a much-loved stop for walkers, climbers, and travellers passing through the area, offering something warm and grounding after time outdoors.
Penceunant Isaf
Penceunant Isaf is a family-run farm offering simple accommodation and camping in the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia). Set in a quiet valley with easy access to walking routes, it provides a peaceful base for spending time outdoors, with a focus on care, simplicity, and connection to the surrounding landscape
The green welley shop
The Green Welly Stop is an independent, family-run business based in Tyndrum, offering a mix of local food, outdoor essentials, and a welcoming place to stop and refuel. It’s a familiar and comforting pause point for walkers and travellers, combining practicality with a strong sense of place

Northern Rye is an independent bakery and café based in the north of England, known for thoughtfully made bread and seasonal food. Their focus on quality ingredients, care, and craft makes it the kind of place that feels rooted in its community rather than rushed or trend-led.
High peak wine and beer co
High Peak Wine & Beer is an independent shop based in the Peak District, specialising in carefully chosen wines and beers from small producers. Their focus on quality, knowledge, and approachability makes it a welcoming place to explore and enjoy something considered, rather than overwhelming.
